Sam Shanahan, a junior at Bishop Blanchet High School, has made a verbal commitment to play softball for Penn State.
Shanahan is primarily a shortstop, but pitched for her high-school team last spring and earned All-Metro first-team honors as a utility player and was also chosen as Blanchet’s team MVP.
She played for The Absolute Blast this past summer and batted .459 (.549 with runners in scoring position), according to her parents. This year, she will play for the Acer’s 18 Gold.
Shanahan was invited to the OnDeck National Elite Futures Camp in October (with Team USA in attendance), but now cannot attend as that camp is only for players who have not made verbal college commitments.
Here is Shanahan’s skills video.
