Evergreen to forfeit Saturday’s football game to Ingraham
Due to a lack of eligible players, Evergreen will forfeit Saturday’s nonleague game to Ingraham, according to Terri McMahan, Highline School District athletic director.
But the two teams will play a “controlled scrimmage” at 1 p.m. Saturday at Highline Stadium.
McMahan said Evergreen will have only “13 or 14” players with enough required practices to participate.
I spoke with Evergreen coach Mark Becker on Sunday and at the time said he thought he’d have 15 eligible players and anticipated being able to play. He said the numbers would grow and that he ultimately expects to carry 40 players on the roster.
Evergreen is scheduled to play Fife in a nonleague game on Friday, Sept. 9. Ingraham’s official opener now will be against Chief Sealth, also on Sept. 9.
