How good is the Stanwood girls basketball team?
I’d say very good if Monday’s game against Eastlake is any indication.
Stanwood came in ranked No. 6 in Class 4A with Eastlake at No. 8. The Spartans dominated, 74-45. I read where they actually trailed in the first quarter, 12-5, before coach Dennis Kloke took a time out. It was effective. They were up 14-13 by the end of that quarter, then pulled away with a 26-6 run in the second, hitting six of their nine 3-pointers.
Samantha Kelleigh and Renee Lucero poured in 17 points apiece, while Paisley Heckman and Tarah Murphy dropped in 10 each. Eastlake was led by Caleigh McCade with 13.
Now I’m even more interested in how Stanwood will do this Friday against No. 4 Lake Stevens.
Eastlake, which is now 0-2 with the other loss coming against Juanita (No. 5 in 3A), obviously has some work to do.
