4A, 3A state baseball championships to be played in Pasco

The 2012 high-school state baseball semifinals and championship games in Class 4A and 3A will be played at Gesa Stadium in Pasco on May 25 and 26.

The site was announced today (Wednesday) during a meeting of the WIAA’s media advisory committee.

The 4A and 3A semis and finals were played at Cheney Stadium in Tacoma this past season and before that were at Safeco Field in Seattle.

Both venues have scheduling conflicts this coming season with the Tacoma Rainiers home at Cheney and the Seattle Mariners at Safeco that weekend.

Site contracts for high-school baseball are done on a yearly basis, according to Cindy Adsit, WIAA assistant executive director, and the tournament could return to Tacoma or Seattle in 2013.
