I don’t typically post highlights over the weekend, but since the playoffs have started, it seemed like a good idea.
There was a lot of great action Friday.
I covered O’Dea’s win over Franklin, securing the Irish’s second straight Metro League title. Click here for the story.
We also covered the KingCo 4A boys semifinals. Click here.
And we were at Kentwood’s win over Curtis in the SPSL title game. Click here.
Here are the rest of Friday’s boys high-school basketball highlights.
Third-ranked Skyline’s boys basketball season came crashing to an end Friday night with a 39-38 loss to Roosevelt in a loser-out game in the KingCo 4A tournament at Juanita High School.
It was a stunning and disappointing finish for the Spartans (18-5), who took a 10-game winning streak into the KingCo tournament before losing back-to-back games to Bothell and Roosevelt.
Skyline had gone 13-1 on the way to the regular-season Crest Division championship.
Roosevelt (15-7) stayed alive and faces Redmond Tuesday at Juanita in another loser-out game.
Newport eliminated Ballard, 59-55, in four overtimes in another KingCo tournament game.
Northwest 3A District
In the tournament semifinals, third-ranked Mountlake Terrace beat Shorecrest 51-45 to improve to 21-1, and Glacier Peak throttled Oak Harbor 54-37 behind Zach Pederson’s 24 points.
Terrace and Glacier Peak will meet in the district-tournament championship game at 8 p.m. Feb. 17 at Terrace.
In loser-out games, Ferndale eliminated Everett 56-45 behind Jake Schroeder’s 21 points, and Shorewood ousted Mount Vernon 67-43 with Josh Hawkinson scoring 22. Hawkinson, a 6-foot-9 junior, hit 10 of 15 shots and had 12 rebounds and two blocked shots.
At Lakes High School, 10th-ranked Decatur got 30 points, six rebounds and four assists from Dom Hunter to beat No. 8 Kennedy Catholic 70-62 for the top seed to the bi-district tournament. Mitch Penner had 35 points and hit 14 of 15 free throws for the Lancers, who will be seeded second.
