Dwane Chappelle talks about Mark Haley

While I was out at the Sea-King 3A District Tournament Tuesday, I caught up with Rainier Beach principal Dwane Chappelle.

Chappelle is in his first year as the school’s principal and took a few minutes to talk about keeping longtime football coach Mark Haley.

“Coach Mark is our guy,” Chappelle said. “The kids are looking forward to being with him. The parents support him. I support him and we just can’t wait for the season to get started.

“He’s a leader among leaders. He’s a legend in the community. We’re looking forward to making sure he has a foundation to have a successful program.”

Haley had to reapply for his job for the first time in 30 years. Click here for the story.
