Newport to dedicate Bob Albo Field on March 24

Newport High School will honor former longtime baseball coach Bob Albo on Saturday, March 24, by dedicating its baseball field in his name.

“Bob Albo Field” is the first Bellevue School District property to be named after an individual. Albo coached the Knights from 1972-83 and 1992-96, compiling a 322-108 record that included six KingCo titles and three state championships. He is a member of the Washington State Baseball Coaches Hall of Fame.

Many of Albo’s former players are expected to be on hand for the dedication, which is scheduled for 3:45 p.m., and the public is invited. Then Albo will throw out the ceremonial first pitch in the game betweenNewport and Bellevue that follows.
