How to nominate Seattle Times Stars of the Week

I am the person responsible for selecting The Times’ prep Stars of the Week, and I thought I’d explain the process — and also make a plea for coaches to e-mail me with nominations.

Nominations should be submitted to me via e-mail (sringer@seattletimes.com) by 8 a.m. each Monday (or over the weekend is fine, too), based on the previous week’s performances (Monday through Saturday). I select one female, one male and one team each week. The brief mention of the award winners and their accomplishments run each Tuesday.

I comb our website for results. This is another good reason to make sure coaches are reporting their results, and details, to The Times on game days. That information can be called into 206-464-2276 or e-mailed to sports@seattletimes.com.

Generally, the home team is responsible for calling in results. However, we often do not get complete details for both teams. So, if you are a visiting team and want to make sure we have all of your information, you should also fee free to report as well (again, it needs to be on the day of the event).

Nominations for athletes of the week must come from a coach (rather than parent), who can verify the performances.

Athletes and teams are eligible only once per season. We like to run a small, head-and-shoulders photo (yearbook style) of the athletes chosen, so including one of those with the nomination is also appreciated.

These selections are separate from the WIAA athletes of the week, which are made for each classification. I do not have any involvement in those decisions. Coaches can make those nominations on this page of the WIAA website.
