Danny Graham has stepped down as head girls basketball coach at Federl Way High School after six successful seasons, citing a desire to spend more time with his family.
Graham and his wife have three sons, ages 12, 10 and 7, and all are involved in sports.
“I missed a lot this last year,” Graham said.
But he will continue as the Eagles’ head baseball coach, noting that afternoon baseball practices and games still allow him to attend most of his son’s events. He said he hopes to help coach some of their baseball and basketball teams.
Federal Way has promoted Josh DeYoe, Graham’s assistant all six seasons, to head coach.
“I’m so happy,” Graham said. “We built this program together. It’s going to be a smooth transition…There won’t be a step back. He will keep this thing rolling.”
The Eagles qualified for the 4A state tournament in each of the past four seasons, placing third in 2009 and second in 2011. This season, they lost to eventual-champion Skyview of Vancouver in the quarterfinals, 55-54, on a three-pointer with 4.5 seconds to play.
