4A and 3A high-school softball rankings — Week 3

A week from now, the state softball rankings might look a lot different as more teams return to action. The weather and a variety of spring breaks made for a pretty light schedule.

There are actually no changes in the Class 3A rankings this week. The only team that lost was No. 6 Wilson — but that was to Woodinville, the No. 2 team in 4A. So the Rams stay put.

In 4A, the top seven remains the same. But the bottom three all lost. Tahoma and Inglemoor drop back to the watch list. Olympia, which was No. 8 last week, hangs in at No. 10, in part because that loss (to South Kitsap) was the Bears’ first of the season and they rebounded to beat a pretty good Gig Harbor team.

Plus, I’m just not sure who else to put in there. I’m giving the No. 8 spot to Kentlake, which owes its only loss to No. 5 Emerald Ridge. And 4-0 Ballard jumps in at No. 9. The Beavers play a solid Bothell squad today, so we’ll see if they can back that up. Newport also got consideration at 7-1.
