Another week, another shake-up in the Class 4A state softball rankings.
There is movement all over the place.
Walla Walla, the defending champion and preseason No. 1, settled for a split with Richland. That leaves Woodinville as the last of the 4A unbeatens. So, the Falcons rise to the top. And they have what should be an intersting game tonight with No. 6 Newport, which has won 10 in a row since a season-opening loss to Interlake.
I’ve bumped Arlington up to No. 2. The Eagles’ lone loss was to Everett, No. 2 in 3A, also in their first game of the year. They are 12-0 since.
Walla Walla slips to No. 3 and Richland jumps from No. 5 to No. 4, flip-flopping with Emerald Ridge, which is unbeaten but inactive for more than a week now. Kentlake lost to Tahoma last week and slides from No. 6 to No. 9 (the Bears are banging on the door again).
Skyview moves up to No. 7 and Marysville-Pilchuck rejoins the top-10 at No. 8. The Tomahawks have won five straight since a one-run loss to Arlington.
Central Valley lost two more games last week and falls to the watch list. Puyallup also drops out, going 2-2 recently.
New to the 4A rankings is Kentwood — which is just 6-1. We should find out more about the Conquerors over the next two weeks, weather permitting, as they have 10 games scheduled in the next 12 days.
There are no new faces in the 3A rankings, but Camas tumbles from No. 5 to No. 8 with a one-run loss to Kelso. Bainbridge solidified its spot at No. 4 with two convincing victories over previously unbeaten Holy Names. The Cougars will stick at No. 9.
