4A and 3A high-school baseball rankings — Week 7

The postseason is in full swing this week with league, district and sub-regional tournaments going on all over the state.

It has been a wild season, which has set up an exciting sprint to the finish.

In Class 4A, top-ranked Kentwood dropped its first game of the season, suffering a 5-4 loss against Puyallup Saturday.

Despite the loss, the Conquerors retain the top spot. The Vikings, who opened the year ranked No. 1, moved up one spot to No. 3.

Mead dropped two games against Gonzaga Prep last week, forcing the Panthers into a loser-out matchup against a good Wenatchee team. After taking a pair from Mead, the Bullpups climb into the rankings this week at No. 10.

With plenty of parity across the state, I wouldn’t be surprised to see big changes when the final rankings of the 2012 season are released next week.

There was some minor shuffling in 3A this week — Mountain View climbs from No. 9 to No. 6.

Hanford seems to be the top team east of the mountains, but the CBBN was unpredictable all year, so it will be interesting to see how things shake out. One particularly interesting matchup is No. 7 Kamiakin playing a loser-out game against Southridge Tuesday.

Ninth-ranked Kennewick also faces a loser-out matchup.
