4A and 3A high-school softball rankings — Week 7

I knew it wouldn’t last forever.

I’ve been spoiled by the Class 3A teams in the state softball rankings, with very few “upsets.” That changed last week as three teams tumbled — although all were in the bottom half of the rankings.

Camas, then No. 7, lost a one-run game to Prairie, then also fell 6-3 to Walla Walla (now No. 2 in 4A). I’m leaving the Papermakers in the rankings at No. 8. But Holy Names (No. 9 last week) and Mount Si (No. 10) slip back to the watch list for now. Holy Names stumbled against Bishop Blanchet and Mount Si went down against Interlake.

It’s nice to get a little new blood in the 3A top-10, so I’m going with Prairie at No. 9 and Peninsula at No. 10.

As usual, 4A continutes to be challenging. Arlington had a14-game win streak snapped by Snohomish last week, but the Eagles drop just two spots to No. 4. Marysville-Pilchuck tumbles from sixth to 10th after losing to Lake Stevens. Emerald Ridge (former No. 7) and Tahoma (former No. 9) are out for now

Jefferson, riding a nine-game win streak, jumps in at No. 7 and Central Valley of Spokane returns at No. 9. The Bears have won six straight since back-to-back losses to Gonzaga Prep and Mead.

We’ll see what happens next week, which I believe will be the final rankings for this season.
