I mentioned here Monday that we are hiring a new prep sports coordinator, and now I’d like to share the official announcement from sports editor Don Shelton:
Jayson Jenks, who graduated in May in Journalism from Kansas University, has been hired as The Seattle Times’ high-school coordinator. He will start next week.
Jayson has been a reporter at the Topeka Capital-Journal covering Kansas football and basketball and preps, and also has done extensive freelance work with the Kansas City Star, AP, Grantland.com and a lot if other major newspapers. He previously was a beat reporter and associate sports editor for his college paper.
Jayson’s role will include reporter, coordinator and multi-media journalist. In the latter role, Jayson will continue to expand our online boundaries with blog and Twitter posts, video, podcasts and Scribble It Live, and will also write extensively for our print editions. He’s a great addition to our extensive and experienced prep team that includes reporter Sandy Ringer, high-school sports editor Mark Akins, five sports news assistants who input results, rosters and schedules, as well as photographers and freelance reporters. We’re excited to have Jayson join us. Looks for his blog posts soon.
