Some high-school volleyball highlights from Wednesday

The volleyball match I was most interested in Wednesday night was between No. 3 Bellarmine Prep and No. 7 Puyallup.

Courtney Schwan led the Lions to a 3-1 victory with 18 kills and 12 digs and senior setter Katy DeGroot put up 32 assists. The teams split the opening two sets, then Bellarmine rolled 25-10 in the third (Puyallup had won the second 25-13 after losing the first 25-23), then pulled out a 25-23 win in the fourth. Maddie Davis led the Vikings with 13 kills and Braylie Jeffers added 10. Mackenzie March piled up 32 assists.

Here are highlights from the other high-school matches reported Wednesday:

Kentwood 3, Issaquah 1

The No. 9 Conquerors, second at state last year, got 13 kills from Lauren Hackett and 9 from Mele Halahuni, who also served up 6 assists. Anatasia Hicker (28) and Piper Crabtree (24) split the assists. Issaquah’s kills were spread between Lauren Alberg (14), Leanne Scott (10, plus 5 aces) and Kristen Fischer (6). Rachel Baker led in assists with 17, while McKenzie Bostic had 15. Lindsey Ferguson topped the digs list with 13.

Curtis 3, Beamer 0

Curtis, ranked No. 10, spread the offense around between Sophie VanEssen (7 kills), Rachel Levenseller (5) and Cierra Hairsten (5). Vicki Henderson and Kaysee Shaffer had 12 assists apiece and Shaffer added 3 aces. The defense was keyed by Jessica Woodruff (14 digs) and Taylor Buell (10). For Beamer, Megan Huff provided 9 kills and 3 blocks, while Tatiana Dixon had 8 kills. Sophie Miller put together 20 assists and 3 blocks.

Emerald Ridge 3, Auburn Riverside 2

I’d heard about how good ER sophomore Jenna Mullen might be, and she made quite a debut with 20 kills and 17 digs. Two other super-sophs were impressive as well — Jessica Davis (18 kills) and Isabella Zubrod (40 assists, 10 digs). Leah Roy added 26 digs. AR was led by Brenna Bruil (18 kills, 5 blocks), Precious Atafua (13 kills), Carson Heilborn (6 kills, 19 assists) and Lexi White (24 assists).

Spanaway Lake 3, Tahoma 1

Arlicia Ortiz matched 14 kills with 14 digs and got help from Brittany Brooks (8 kills, 15 digs), Tiki Lawerence (6 kills, 4 blocks) and Raelin Magaoay (24 digs). Tahoma’s big gun was Rachelle Fretz (12 kills, 20 digs). Anikka Burdulis put together 25 assists, 11 digs and 3 aces and the Bears also got notable digs from Natalie Burdulis (15), Megan Smith (12) and Rachel Behrens (12).

Kamiak 3, Redmond 0

No Kamiak highlights reported. Redmond’s top performers were Audrey Hyem (7 kills, 13 digs), Ryan Ong (4 kills, 10 digs), Sarah McClurkin (15 assists) and Dagny Safon (12 digs).

Gig Harbor 3, Rogers 2

Rogers coach Mandy Flores Handley said she was very impressed with the Tides and thinks they can be a factor in Narrows 4A, which includes No. 3 Bellarmine Prep and No. 4 Olympia, the defending state champion. Liz Fredrickson had 10 kills and 7 blocks for the Tides. Riley Barentte led Rogers with 13 kills and Whitney Riffle added 10. Kelsea Myers contributed 38 assists and 9 digs, while Kelsie Abrahm had 16 digs.

Mercer Island 4, Skyline 1

The Islanders, ranked No. 6 in 3A, got an impressive win over a Skyline team expected to compete for the KingCo 4A title. They showed their balance with solid outings from Sara Lindquist (15 kills), Kris Brackman (12 kills), Jemma Yeadon (11 kills), Lottie MacAulay (6 kills, 3 blocks), Lorial Yeadon (6 kills, 10 digs) and Carly Wilson (37 assists). Halle Erdhal paced Skyline with 20 kills, while Crystal Anderson added 9 and Molly Mounsey 8. Meghan Wedeking finished with 31 kills and Emily Harris provided 14 digs.

Bishop Blanchet 3, Archbishop Murphy 0

Lakeside 3, Ballard 1

No Lakeside highlights reported. The Ballard standouts were Liza Berg (15 kills, 3 blocks, 10 digs), Kiana Wyld (10 kills, 3 aces), Leah Schlidkraut (7 kills) and McKinley Kellogg (22 assists, 11 digs).

Inglemoor 3, Juanita 0

No Inglemoor highlights reported. Jade Finau had 14 assists for the Rebels, with Sarah Brennan logging 7 kills and Lauren Friend 5.

Chief Sealth 3, Cleveland 0

Tons of highlights for the Seahawks: Katherine Kirk (11 kills, 10 digs), Lorna Sailiai (8 kills, 10 digs, 8 aces), Madiline Twombley (12 assists, 7 aces), Nicole Carter (10 assists). Zoe Haywood (3 blocks), Sophie Boyd (3 blocks) and Livvy Boyd (10 digs).

Nathan Hale 3, Rainier Beach 1

Anna Tale pounded 8 kills and added 3 aces for the Raiders, who also got strong serving efforts from Siah Lesher (6 aces) and Charlotte Hammer (3).

West Seattle 3, Ingraham 0

Cedar Park Christian (Bothell) 3, Cascade Christian 2

No highlights reported.

Chimacum 3, Charles Wright 1

No Chimacum highlights reported. Shelby Fisher smacked 22 kills in the loss, while Vanessa Davis added 7 and Lauren Meadocroft handed out 30 assists.

Life Christian 3, Seattle Christian 2

Johnnise Moore led the way with 13 kills and Carly Normandeau was everywhere with 9 kills, 29 assists and 3 aces. Grace Douffiou (7 kills, 4 aces) and Kylie Burton(18 digs, 3 aces) were also key. Seattle Christian got a whopping 54 assists from Hanna Kumasaka and the kill leaders were Megan Bryant (16) and Abby Sauer (12).

Vashon Island 3, Eatonville 1

No highlights reported.

Shoreline Christian 3, Northwest School 0

Sarah Ott keyed the victory with 14 aces.
