Some high-school volleyball highlights from Monday

The place for volleyball fans to be tonight (Tuesday) is at Jackson High School, where the top-ranked Timberwolves take on No. 3 Bellarmine Prep in what should be a great match.

I unfortunately cannot be there, and it’s killing me. But I hope to follow up with both coaches and have a detailed report here Wednesday morning.

Here are some other matches I see on the schedule that should be entertaining: Skyline at No. 10 Snohomish, No. 6 Newport at Glacier Peak, Lake Stevens at Roosevelt, Rogers at Kent-Meridian and Tahoma at Emerald Ridge, to mentiona few.

Now, on to the highlights from the Monday matches reported to The Times:

Glacier Peak 3, Oak Harbor 2

This one was as good as advertised, and one I was anxious to check out. GP had been in the 3A preseason rankings, but dropped out after a so-so performance at the SunDome Invitational that included a 2-0 loss to Oak Harbor. Ruby Mensing, one of the Grizzlies’ big guns, played libero while resting a sore shoulder. She looked like her usual self last night, pounding 23 kills and delivering 17 digs. Maria Darling had 14 kills and Maddi Ober added 12 kills, 4 blocks and 12 digs with Reanna Jarchow putting up 52 assists. For Oak Harbor, Kayleigh Harper had a huge night with 23 kills, 7 blocks and 14 digs. Roshel Muzzall chipped in 10 kills and 14 digs, while Amelia Berner was good for 18 digs and 4 aces.

Things only get tougher for GP with Newport tonight and then Snohomish on Thursday.

Puyallup 3, Auburn Riverside 1

Riverside was coming off a strong, second-place showing at the Adidas Puget Sound Invitational, but fifth-ranked Puyallup was simply too much thanks largely to Maddie Davis (15 kills) and Braylie Jeffers (10 kills, 4 blocks).
