Sumner’s Sarah Carter named Seahawks’ athlete of the week

Sumner soccer player Sarah Carter was named the Seahawks’ high school athlete of the week and will be recognized on the field on Oct. 14 against the Patriots.

Cater is a defender and three-time SPSL first-team selection. She is also a two-time captain and was named team MVP.

SEATTLE and RENTON, Wash. – The Seattle Seahawks, CenturyLink, Inc. (NYSE: CTL) and Q13 FOX (KCPQ) today announced Sarah Carter of Sumner High School as the week four CenturyLink High School Athlete of the Week. Sarah will be recognized on the field at CenturyLink Field during the October 14 game against the New England Patriots.

Sarah, a senior at Sumner, was selected Athlete of the Week based on her dedication to academics, community involvement, leadership and athletic performance. Sarah holds a 3.95 GPA and is an International Baccalaureate student in Science, Math, English, History and Spanish. In the community, Sarah helps raise money for Race for a Soldier, Relay for Life and Come Walk with Me. She volunteered at Cascade Crest and Rainier to Ruston Crest and helps organize community dinners at Sumner H.S. She has been active in the Sumner H.S. leadership program all four years of high school and is currently in core leadership. She also participated in Spart Crew and helped plan school activities such as homecoming and community dinner. Sarah is a defender on the girls soccer team which is the number one ranked 2A high school team. She is a 3-year SPSL First Team All-League player, team MVP, and a captain on the team for her junior and senior seasons. She helped the team to an SPSL league title and the state quarterfinals last season. Also a member of Washington Premier and the ODP team for four years, Sarah will be attending Gonzaga University next year on a soccer scholarship.

As high school athlete of the week, the student-athlete will also be recognized at their school in front of their family, peers and teachers. They will also receive a $1,000 grant from CenturyLink and the Seahawks for their school’s ASB fund, in addition to media recognition, tickets and sideline passes to a Seahawks game, and a customized 2012 Nike Seahawks jersey
