Orting’s Christian Yoro selected Seahawks’ athlete of the week

The Seahawks announced Orting High’s Christian Yoro as the high school athlete of the week. Yoro, a football player, was first-team all-league last year as a wide receiver and defensive back.

This year, Yoro has rushed for 155 yards, accumulated 36 tackles and returned a kickoff for a touchdown.

He will be recognized on the field during the Seahawks’ game against the Patriots on Oct. 14.

SEATTLE and RENTON, Wash. – The Seattle Seahawks, CenturyLink, Inc. (NYSE: CTL) and Q13 FOX (KCPQ) today announced Christian Yoro of Orting High School as the week six CenturyLink High School Athlete of the Week. Christian will be recognized on the field at CenturyLink Field during the October 14 game against the New England Patriots.

Christian, a senior at Orting, was selected Athlete of the Week based on his dedication to academics, community involvement, leadership and athletic performance. Christian holds a 3.9 GPA and is currently enrolled in AP American Government and AP Literature, in addition to being a member of the National Honor Society. Christian has been involved with his church community for many years, as he is one of the altar servers and has been able to serve by training others as well. He’s also a member of a local dance crew that donates their time and talent by performing at non-profits to raise money for Sumner Benefit Night and the Crones Colitis Foundation. Christian is his Senior Class President, was voted by his football team last year as “Teammate of the Year,” and is on Football Leadership Council in addition to being a Senior Varsity football Captain. On the field, Christian was selected All-League 1st Team Wide Receiver and Defensive Back in 2011. He was also selected the September 21 Cardinal player of the Game in addition to being named the 2012 WIAA/Seattle Times 2A Athlete of the Week. So far in 2012, he has carried 20 times for 155 yards, adding four receptions for 92 yards, tallying 36 solo tackles, four punt returns for 54 yards, and one kick return for a 70 yard touchdown.

As high school athlete of the week, the student-athlete will also be recognized at their school in front of their family, peers and teachers. They will also receive a $1,000 grant from CenturyLink and the Seahawks for their school’s ASB fund, in addition to media recognition, tickets and sideline passes to a Seahawks game, and a customized 2012 Nike Seahawks jersey.
