If University wins, Eastside Catholic or Marysville-Pilchuck will head east

If University beats North Thurston on Saturday, then the winner of the Eastside Catholic-Marysville-Pilchuck game will play the semifinal game in the east, not the Tacoma Dome.

University pulled one of the first round’s biggest surprises by beating O’Dea 34-6 on Saturday. University (7-4) started the year 2-4 before rallying for five straight wins. North Thurston is 9-2 after beating Kennewick in the first round of the playoffs last week.

Eastside Catholic (11-0) and Marysville-Pilchuck (9-2) will square off on Friday in one of the area’s best games. The Crusaders are fresh off a 69-13 win against Kelso while Marysville-Pilchuck jumped out to an early lead in a 33-21 win against Timberline on Saturday.

The two area teams that traveled across the state last weekend didn’t fare so well: O’Dea lost to University and Newport lost 41-14 to Mead.
