Grady Sizemore, Whitney Hooks among those to be inducted into Cascade Hall of Fame

Major-league baseball player Grady Sizemore, former UW and Cal State Northridge track athlete Whitney Hooks and a host of Henderson family members will be inducted into the Cascade High School Hall of Fame.

Here is the school’s full press release below:

In coordination with the 50th anniversary of the first graduating class at Cascade High School, we will be inducting nine members – two coaches, six athletes, and one family of athletes and coaches – to join the inaugural class of six coaches who were inducted three years ago.

2012 Class of Hall of Fame

Lou Stevenson – athlete: class of 1964

Jeff Cushman – athlete: class of 1963

Neal Bartlett – coach: wrestling, football

Kelly Warren – athlete: class of 1978

Vicki (Borsheim) Beskind – athlete: class of 1984

Charlie Cobb – coach: basketball, tennis

Grady Sizemore – athlete: class of 2000

Whitney Hooks – athlete: class of 2006

The Henderson Family (Dick, Pat, Chris & Sean)

– Dick – coach: boys soccer, girls soccer

– Pat – athlete: class of 1984; coach: boys soccer

– Chris – athlete: class of 1989

– Sean – athlete: class of 1990

These nine inductees represent the rich history of Bruin Athletics ideals and successes on the fields, courts, and tracks of Cascade High School. Their reign at Cascade spans the five decades of Bruin Pride, from Jeff Cushman and Lou Stevenson of the first days on the new Cascade campus in the early ’60’s to the mid 2000’s for the six state championships of Whitney Hooks.

“The School of Pride” will honor these Cascade coaching and athletic legends during a ceremony between the Cascade versus Everett boys and girls varsity basketball games on Friday, November 30th, 2012 at the Reg Scodeller Gymnasium, Cascade High School. The girls basketball game will tip-off at 5:30pm followed by the hall of fame induction ceremony at approximately 7:00pm between the contests. The boys game will tip-off at 8:00pm.

This year’s honorees were nominated by the community and selected by the Hall of Fame Committee whose members include former and current coaches, administrators, teachers, and students. Those selected for the Coaches Hall of Fame needed to demonstrate a continued commitment and promotion of the values and philosophy of sportsmanship including fairness, dedication, perseverance, winning without boasting and losing without excuse.
