Budda Baker named to MaxPreps’ Junior All-American team

Budda Baker, Bellevue’s 5-foot-10, 175-pound junior, was named to MaxPreps’ Junior All-American team as a defensive back.

Baker is one of the area’s most highly regarded prospects, having received interest from Alabama, Notre Dame and the majority of Pac-12 schools. Baker was an explosive player as a junior; in a showdown against second-ranked Mount Si, he returned two interceptions for touchdowns in the first half. But teams didn’t throw against Baker much as opposing coaches marveled at both his athletic ability and his natural feel for playing defensive back.

He was also an explosive running back, but he rarely got more than a few carries a game. He set the tone in the Class 3A state championship game, when he returned an Eastside Catholic punt 71 yards for a touchdown. The return came in the first three minutes of the game. He also scored on a 61-yard touchdown run, helping Bellevue win its fifth straight state title.
