Rainier Beach will be without four players on Tuesday, when the top-ranked Vikings play Eastside Catholic in a Sea-King 3A District game, according to Seattle Public Schools athletic director Eric McCurdy.
Rainier Beach guard Marquis Davis and three other players who McCurdy declined to specify will not play in Tuesday’s game after a scuffle broke out on the court against Lakeside on Friday. In that game, Lakeside’s Tramaine Isabell and Rainier Beach’s Shaqquan Aaron received technical fouls but both are eligible. Davis was ejected from the game, WIAA rules state that a player who is ejected must sit out the following game.
The three other Beach players will not play because they left the bench area when the scuffle broke out. All three were stopped at mid-court by Beach assistant coaches, but a player who leaves the bench is not eligible to play the following game. None of the three were ejected during Friday’s game. McCurdy said the decision was reached after he received additional information and after talking with Rainier Beach principal Dwayne Chappelle and coach Mike Bethea.
The Vikings (19-3) are ranked No. 1 in Class 3A and are favorites to repeat as state champions this year. Beach has won 13 straight games.
