Girls 4A: Gonzaga Prep 59, Kentwood 44, loser out

Gonzaga Prep 59, Kentwood 44 (loser out)

Sophomore 6-footer Otiona Gildon supplied a career-high 30 points and eight rebounds as the young and talented fourth-ranked Bullpups (23-4) bounced back from a cold-shooting state quarterfinal to earn a shot at its best finish in school history.

Gonzaga Prep, which got 20 points from Gildon in the first half, finished a school-best fifth place last season and win over the Skyline-Inglemoor winner would give them fourth place.

Gildon was a force inside, converting 12 of 22 field goals and 6 of 8 free throws.

Kentwood finished 19-8. The Conquerors, who reached the state quarterfinals or beyond for the fifth time in eight years, were led by junior Sarah Toeainia’s 20 points. Kate Kramer added 13 points and 11 rebounds.
