Longtime Seattle Prep baseball coach Ed Paulter retires

Seattle Prep baseball coach Ed Paulter has retired, the school announced Thursday. The news signals the end of a long and storied coaching career in the area.

Paulter spent the last 28 years as the head baseball coach at Prep and posted a career record of 415-202. He won five Metro League titles, made 13 state tournament appearances and was inducted into the Washington State Baseball Coaches’ Hall of Fame in 2009.

Prep’s baseball program will fall into familiar hands: Max Engel, an associate head coach at Prep the last nine years, will become the school’s new head coach; Paulter is also Prep’s athletic director.

Engel is a 1996 Prep grad and holds Prep season records for home runs (eight) and RBIs (42). He is also a math teacher at the school.
