National volleyball rankings: Bellarmine Prep, Emerald Ridge crack top-100
John Tawa has posted the top-100 national volleyball rankings on PrepVolleyball.com, and you can find them here.
Two Washington teams made the cut — Bellarmine Prep at No. 44 and Emerald Ridge at No. 99.
Bellarmine features 6-2 senior Courtney Schwan, a UW commit who lead the Lions to the Class 4A state championship last season and was named the Gatorade Player of the Year for Washington. Emerald Ridge had a great run with a super-young team last season and should be even stronger this season behind the play of 6-1 junior Jenna Mullen.
No other Washington teams were mention in the expanded list of others to watch, but the “bubble” teams in our state are Auburn Riverside, Kentwood, Mercer Island, Mount Si and Snohomish.
I’ll be compiling state rankings again for Class 4A, 3A and 2A, with the opening polls probably appearing on the blog Sept. 9. I’ve got lots of research to do, and your input is welcomed! I admit I haven’t had time to give much thought to the rankings at this point, but I pretty much knew at the end of last season that Bellarmine Prep would get the preseason nod at No. 1 in 4A and Emerald Ridge would be close behind (top-five for sure).
I will also be writing an expanded state review for PrepVolleyball.com in early September and will let you know what that’s going to post. Remember, that’s a pay website, but for high-school volleyball fans, it’s a deal at $29.95.
Practices start next Monday and it should be another exciting season!
