Class 4A, 3A and 2A state volleyball rankings — Week 4

One of the state’s top prep volleyball events is this weekend in Spokane. What used to be known as the Spokane Crossover is now, fittingly, the Linda Sheridan Volleyball Classic, named after the late, legendary coach who was one of the founders of the tournament.

Several ranked teams are expected to compete, although none of the big guns like Bellarmine Prep, Emerald Ridge, Southridge or West Valley of Yakima. I’ll be anxious to see how Central Valley, rated No. 3 in 4A, fares along with No. 6 Mead, No. 9 Auburn Riverside and No. 10 Jackson.

Glacier Peak is also hosting a tournament Saturday.

But let’s get right to this week’s rankings.

I think I did the Newport Knights a favor by dropping them out of the rankings last week. The turned around and blanked Skyline, which I had moved up to No. 6, in straight sets — although all three were close.

So now Skyline is back on the watch list and Newport sits at No. 8.

It’s a big week for No. 7 Snohomish, which plays at Kamiak tomorrow and at Jackson Thursday. Both opponents are 4-1 (Jackson’s lone loss coming against Bellarmine).

No. 4 Olympia plays at Bellarmine Wednesday, and I’m anxious to see how close that one ends up being.

In Class 3A, Holy Names (the Metro favorite ranked No. 4) tumbles out of the top-10 after losses to Seattle Prep and Bainbridge. So, Prep vaults to No. 4, but I’m still taking a wait-and-see approach on Bainbridge. Instead, I’m giving a poll spot to Enumclaw (No. 9).

There’s a new No. 1 in Class 2A after No. 2 Selah beat top-ranked West Valley of Yakima in a classic five-setter. But, no, it’s not Selah at the top. I’m going with Burlington-Ediston this week and keeping Selah in the No. 2 spot. West Valley dips to No. 4.

Anacortes is just 1-3 and White River lost last week to Steilacoom, so I’m going with Sumner and R.A. Long to round out the top-10.

So, here you go:
