New state football record set Thursday night

Shadle Park’s Brett Rypien set the Washington state 11-man record for passing yards in a game Thursday night in Shadle Park’s 63-42 win over Mt. Spokane.

Rypien threw for 613 yards, breaking his own single-game passing record set in 2012 of 577 yards.

It’s the first time in Washington state 11-man history that a quarterback has thrown for over 600 yards in a game.

Rypien also broke the record for single-game pass completions with 44. The previous record was held by Chris Brown from Bonney Lake in 2011 with 42.

He also got close to tying the the single-game passing touchdowns record. The record is nine touchdowns, set by Brian Lindgren from DeSales in 1998. Rypien joined three other quarterbacks by throwing for eight passing touchdowns.

The Spokesman-Review covered the game, and has stats and quotes from Rypien.
