State football semifinal matchups set

Eastside Catholic

The 4A and 3A state semifinals are set. Let’s take a look at what transpired in today’s quarterfinal games.

Chiawana beat Wenatchee 56-34 at the Apple Bowl and will host Federal Way, winners on Friday.

Bellarmine Prep outlasted Bothell in a 20-17 overtime win. Garrett McKay intercepted a Ross Bowers pass in overtime to seal the win. The pick came after a Sam McPherson touchdown run was brought back due to a holding penalty.  Matthew Philichi had the game-winning field goal for the second straight week. Bellarmine Prep plays Camas at the Tacoma Dome next week.

Camas was tested by Eastlake, but the 4A No. 1 team eventually won 47-28. The 19-point win is the closest game the Papermakers have had all season.

In 3A …

Bellevue jumped out to an early lead and then coasted to a 48-27 win over Peninsula. The Wolverines have won 52 straight and owns the longest unbeaten streak in state history. Lake Washington (1956-61) previously held the record. Bellevue will travel to play Shadle Park next week.

Shadle Park beat Kamiakin 34-16 and will host Bellevue at Joe Albi Stadium in Spokane next week.

Eastside Catholic was able to hold off Meadowdale for a 21-16 win at Memorial Stadium. The Crusaders needed a late interception to preserve the victory. It is the second consecutive trip to the semifinals for Eastside Catholic, which gets a rematch with Metro League foe O’Dea. The Irish won on Friday.
