Marques Chinn (Second year)
– Javon Owens (point guard): Owens started every game last year as a freshman, averaged about 12 points and five assists.
– Kentrell Adams (forward): An undersized forward at 5 foot 10, Chinn says he plays like one of the biggest guys on the court. Draws a Charles Barkley comparison for his build, as well as for being strong and nimble.
What you need to know
Ingraham is a very young team. Owens, a sophomore, is one of the most experienced players.
Style of play
Ingraham is a very small team, with its center standing at 6 foot 2 and its biggest contributor a 6-foot-3 wing. To make up for lack of height, the Rams try to speed the tempo of the game by pressuring the ball and pressing the entire game. Chinn likes his guards to be creative and score in transition if possible.
“Realistically, last year was my first year at Ingraham, and I took over a total rebuild. My seniors last year, I was their fifth coach. There was kind of all this turmoil and coaches going in and out, in and out. So last year, finishing 3-17, I think realistically [a good goal for this season is] getting to the Metro playoffs and getting a taste of that … I think it’s good for them to get a taste of playoff basketball, a taste of playing against top competition in this conference.” – Chinn
