You’ve got a great chance to see several top-notch prep basketball games Saturday at the Muscle Milk Preview at Highline Community College.
I’ll be there for the blockbuster girls game between top-ranked Lynnwood and No. 2 Mount Rainier at 3:30 p.m. I really struggled with which of these teams to put at No. 1, so the Rams and Stanford-bound Brittany McPhee now have a chance to prove me wrong.
The other girls game could be interesting, too, a 10:30 a.m. tipoff between Kentwood and Wilson. I started Kentwood at No. 8 in the 4A rankings this week — then the Conquerors went out and lost Tuesday to Kentridge (a team I plan to see Friday against a good Auburn Riverside squad). Wilson reached the 3A state semifinals last season, losing a tough one to Seattle Prep, and graduated several key players — but should still be tough this year.
The boys slate features six games, headlined by the 7 p.m. matchup between two 3A top-10 teams — No. 6 Mountlake Terrace and No. 8 Franklin.
You can also catch Beamer, rated No. 9 in 4A, against Inglemoor at 5 p.m. And the nightcap features UW-bound Donovan Dorsey and his Timberline squad against Kentwood at 8:30 p.m.
It all starts at 9 a.m. with the Hazen boys playing Seattle Academy. The other boys games are Auburn Riverside vs. Bonney Lake at noon and Mount Rainier vs. Kennedy at 2 p.m.
Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students — a great value for all of that basketball!
