Another weekend has arrived (how’d that happen so quickly?), which means another two (mostly) full days of basketball.
I’ll be at O’Dea as the No. 3 Irish host Eastside Catholic in a Metro League game. One of those teams will suffer its first loss of the season. Eastside Catholic has opened with blowout wins over Bishop Blanchet and Chief Sealth, while O’Dea beat Lakeside comfortably in its first game.
Other boys basketball games to keep an eye on this weekend …
– Ballard puts its 3-0 record to the test when it plays at No. 2 Garfield tonight. The Beavers have seven seniors on roster, but little varsity experience. Garfield should prove to be a tough draw, but a good showing by Ballard would be a statement to the rest of KingCo.
– Auburn Riverside plays at No. 4 Kentridge. It should be a fun matchup of talented players, with Derek Brown and Jawan Stepney going at it.
– Saturday’s slate has some good matchups with the Muscle Milk Preview at Highline Community College. The 5 p.m. game, Inglemoor-No. 9 Beamer should be an exciting contest. Same goes for the 7 p.m. No. 8 Franklin-No. 6 Mountlake Terrace matchup. Rounding out the night at the Muscle Milk Preview is an 8:30 p.m. game between Kentwood and No. 9 Timberline, where you can see UW commit Donaven Dorsey play.
– I’ll be at a non-league game between No. 7 Seattle Prep and No. 1 Rainier Beach. Seattle Prep seems to be doing fine without D.J. Fenner, but this will be its biggest test of the young season. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:45 p.m. at Rainier Beach.
