Newport TE Drew Sample commits to UW

Newport tight end Drew Sample has verbally committed to Washington, according to Scout.com. Sample was previously committed to current UW coach Chris Petersen at Boise State.

“From the start it was a school that I was disappointed in never getting an offer from and so we decided that in the end it’s the best spot for me and I agree with that,” Sample told Scout.com.

A three-star recruit, the 6-foot-5, 235-pound Sample developed his blocking skills this past season as the Newport offense shifted into a run-first philosophy. He was chosen to The Seattle Times All-State team.

“I know he was wrangling with it and he’s a pretty loyal guy and he had his mind set on Boise State for a number of months,” Newport coach Mike Miller said. “He committed to Coach Petersen first and foremost. Now that he’s at UW, it makes sense. I’m happy for him.”
