Tournament of Champions tips off today at Franklin

The Tournament of Champions Holiday Classic tips off today at Franklin High School. It is the third year of the tournament, with defending champion Union back to defend its title.

Last season, the Quakers were runner-ups. Also back is Canyon Springs (Nev.), which went 1-2 last year and from my brief glimpse into its shootaround earlier today, seem intent on a better outcome.

Here is today’s schedule:

Foss-Cleveland (2:45)

Union-No. 5 Wilson (4:30)

Nathan Hale-Canyon Springs (6:15)

Sequim-No. 6 Franklin (8)

The games are scheduled for the same times tomorrow, with today’s losers playing in the early slots and the winners in the later contests. The tournament includes three of the four Metro League Valley Division teams (Franklin, Nathan Hale and Cleveland). Franklin beat Nathan Hale 73-61 earlier this season and will face Cleveland in league play on Jan. 3. Nathan Hale beat Cleveland 67-63 earlier this year.

Cleveland and Nathan Hale are on the same side of the bracket.
