Rainier Beach faces No. 1 recruit tonight

Rainier Beach has a big matchup with Whitney Young (Chicago) tonight at 9 p.m. in the Les Schwab Invitational.

The game is a big one on a couple different levels. Whitney Young is the No. 21 team in the nation (FAB Rankings) and was ranked No. 3 in the preseason. Whitney Young is led by ESPN’s No. 1 recruit, Jahlil Okafor.

Rainier Beach is already on the national radar, but wins against teams like Whitney Young can further solidify the Vikings as a premier basketball school.

“We set the bar high for ourselves,” coach Mike Bethea said. “The kids take pride in that. They get the pressure from the alumni, who put us in this position, to keep the tradition going. We pride ourselves just like Oak Hill, Findlay Prep, all those other big time programs around the country. We consider ourselves the elite team in the northwest.”

If Rainier Beach wins, it would most likely face No. 17 Bishop Gorman in the title game.

You can watch the game online for a $15 fee.
