Bellevue star Budda Baker has decommitted from Oregon, he announced via Twitter Friday afternoon.
Baker, a four-star recruit, committed to Oregon on Dec. 20. His other final two choices were Washington and UCLA. Baker told The Seattle Times at the time that the UW “was probably my second choice.”
Baker was the Washington state Player of the Year by The Seattle Times, the Associated Press and The News Tribune. Despite being listed as the No. 4 safety nationally by Scout.com, Baker said the Ducks planned to use him mainly on offense.
“This decision was maybe (made) three weeks ago, but I just had to think and keep talking to other colleges,” Baker told The Seattle Times at the time of his commitment. “I knew I was going to Oregon when I was talking to colleges I wasn’t really interested in talking to. I still wanted to talk to them at least for a little longer because I liked Oregon — I knew like 90 percent — but I still wanted to check so I knew that was the perfect place.”
Multiple media outlets are reporting Baker will take an official visit to the UW this weekend, as first reported by KJR’s Dave Mahler.
