Sam Procopio is the new head girls soccer coach at Holy Names.
Here is the press release from the school:
SEATTLE, MARCH 18, 2014—Holy Names Academy has named Sam Procopio as its new Varsity Soccer Coach for the fall 2014 season. He replaces Teddy Mitalas, who since 2008 has guided Cougar soccer teams to three WIAA State Tournament appearances, winning the third-place trophy in 2012, and to two Metro League Tournament championships. Teams coached by Mitalas at Holy Names Academy have also twice won the WIAA Academic State championship—in 2009 and 2012.
Procopio, who teaches math and AP Computer Science at Holy Names Academy, has coached soccer for 17 years, most recently as the Holy Names Academy JV coach since 2008. He previously served as varsity coach at Interlake High School in Bellevue.
He grew up in Seattle’s Capitol Hill neighborhood, home to Holy Names Academy, and attended Bishop Blanchet High School, where he played four years of varsity soccer under coaches Chuck Sekyra and Bob Buhrman and two years of varsity basketball. He went on to earn his bachelor’s degree in mathematics from the University of Portland and a master’s in education from the University of Notre Dame.
On the faculty of Holy Names Academy since 2008, Procopio has taught mathematics, AP Computer Science, and entrepreneurial studies, and is currently co-chair of the Mathematics Department. For the next school year, he will assume a new administrative position as Technology Administrator at the school.
