Typically, we don’t feature out-of-season high-school events here, because there are so many of them.
But this one is pretty big, and close, so I want to make sure you know about it.
The Brooks PR Invitational track and field meet is this Saturday at Renton Memorial Stadium, and it features some of the fastest high-school athletes in the nation — including Hannah Cunliffe of Federal Way and Alexa Efraimson of Camas.
Cunliffe won the 100 and 200 at the 4A state meet last month and is in the 100 field Saturday that features seven girls with qualifying times of 11.66 or better.
Efraimson, who just completed her junior year, set a national record in winning the 1,600 at the Class 4A state meet last month, clocking 4:33.29. She also won the 800 in a meet-record 2:04.10 — and that’s the event she will run Saturday.
Rose Christen of Central Kitsap and Alexis Daughtery of Skyline, who placed second and fourth, respectively, at state are also in the 800 field.
The girls mile will feature Megan Beauchene of Kamiakin, the 3A state champ in the 1,600.
You can find the complete list of entries and event times for the girls and boys here.
I’ve been told that the gates open at 11:30 a.m. (although the FloTrack link says noon) and the meet runs from 1:30 p.m.-4:30 p.m. Tickets are $10. Children under 6 are free.
