Holy Names Academy rising seniors Marlee Blue and Katy Gillingham are competing in Germany at the 2014 World Rowing Junior Championships as members of the U.S. Junior National Team.
The event runs from August 6-10.
Blue, rowing in the Women’s 4-, helped her squad on Thursday advance to the semifinals. Gillingham competed in the Women’s 8+ Thursday and her unit finished second behind Russia in its heat. They will now race in the repechages, or a practice in series competitions.
The semifinals take place Saturday and the Women’s 4- is looking to repeat as champs.
More from the school: “Following the event in Germany, Marlee will continue on to China to row for the U.S. at the Youth Olympic Games in Nanjing, August 17–24. Marlee will compete in the Womens’ 2-, the only rowing event in which the U.S. is entered at the Youth Olympic Games. In June, Marlee and Katy combined to win HNA Cougar crew a national silver medal in the Women’s Varsity 2- event at the USRowing Youth National Championships.”
