“The Right Stuff” Volleyball Blog: Tourney time

I’m back with The Right Stuff, my weekly volleyball notebook, for another season and it will be posted here each Thursday.

We are shortening up our blog posts this year in hopes of keeping your interest, so I’ll get right to it.

This is a big tournament weekend on both sides of the state, with at least three invitationals Saturday that I’m aware of.

The biggest local event is the 20-team Sterling Volleyball Classic (formerly Adidas Puget Sound Invitational) at Auburn Mountainview, which includes four ranked teams – Tumwater (2A No. 1), Kennedy Catholic (3A No. 6), Snohomish (4A No. 10) and R.A. Long (2A No. 10).

Kent-Meridian is hosting what coach Michael Christensen calls a “small but competitive” tournament, the KM Invite, featuring KM, Spanaway Lake, Shadle Park, Holy Names, Federal Way and Roosevelt.

Over in Yakima it’s the SunDome Volleyball Festival, a 32-team event for 4A, 3A and 2A teams. Central Valley of Spokane (4A No. 6) and Selah (2A No. 5) are in the same opening pool, ouch! West Valley of Yakima (4A No. 9) is entered along with Sehome (2A No. 3). This one has a website so you can see the full schedule here.

There is also a SunDome tourney Friday for 32 1A, 2B and 1B teams.
