Class 4A, 3A and 2A state volleyball rankings — Week 3

It was great to get out and see some really good volleyball Saturday at the Kent Classic. You can ready my story about it here.

Top-ranked Emerald Ridge is really good, but the Jaguars still have some work to do, like every other team in the state.

They didn’t dominate start to finish, and even dropped a set to Curtis — a team they drilled 3-0 in SPSL 4A South play earlier in the week. But they finished strong and I expect to see a much sharper squad down the road.

And that goes double for Bellarmine Prep, which played ER tough in the second round of pool (25-21, 25-20) play after earlier splits with Capital and Anacortes. Coach Jody DeGroot made no excuses, noting she is still tinkering with her lineup.

I’ve dropped the Lions just a but, from No. 2 to No. 5. Camas appeared primed to move up after a strong start against a very good Columbia River team, then lost in three. The Papermakers slip from fourth to sixth and I’m betting they will be much improved come playoff time as well.

Skyline had a very nice tournament and moves up one spot to No. 7 and Snohmish climbs back in at No. 8 after beating Jackson (formerly No. 7) last week. The Timberwolves also lost to Kamiak.

In 3A, Capital climbs to No. 4 after that impressive win over CR and outstanding showing in Kent. But the big move comes as a result of Holy Names’ 3-2 win over then-No. 2 Mercer Island last week. The Cougars move from 10th to sixth and MI tumbles to No. 7.

No real big changes in 2A. Lynden slides from fifth to eighth, but stays in despite three losses — because those three were to ranked teams (twice to No. 3 Sehome and once to Ferndale, No. 9 in 3A).
