Class 4A, 3A and 2A state volleyball rankings — Week 4

It’s a big upcoming weekend of prep volleyball, so you just might see a fair amount of movement in the state rankings next Monday.

The Linda Sheridan Classic in (formerly the Crossover Classic) is Friday and Saturday in Spokane, featuring a 64-team field that includes a bunch of ranked teams. I’ll have more on that in my Thursday blog, The Right Stuff.

And then there’s the Bearcat Invitational in Monroe, where you’ll find top-ranked Emerald Ridge in a quality field. I hope to get those pools in the next day or two but no response yet.

I feel pretty good about the top six teams in 4A this week, but after that I had to tinker as a trio of ranked teams fell — Skyline (to Mount Si), Snohomish (to Monroe, which then lost to Cascade) and Graham-Kapowsin (to Curtis).

I rewarded Curtis and Mount Si with top-10 spots (although Skyline had the better tournament in Kent), and nearly went with Cascade. But at the last minute I brough West Valley of Yakima back in after the Rams played No. 5 Bellarmine tough the other day before losing 3-1.

Cascade can make its case this week against Snohomish and Kamiak.

The big shake-up in 3A comes after Kamiakin knocked off then-No. 2 Southridge. The Braves rise from 10th to seventh, and Southridge slides to No. 8.

Eastside Catholic is knocking at the door and has the chance to break in with matches against No. 5 Holy Names tonight (Monday) and No. 9 Lakeside on Wednesday.

Woodland joins the 2A top-10 after beating R.A. Long, and then there is just some shuffling. But I’ll be anxious to see how No. 5 Selah does Tuesday against an Ellsenburg team that¬†could be¬†poised to push into the rankings.
