Blue Thomas breaks Eastlake passing record

How talented is Blue Thomas? Well, the Eastlake quarterback broke a school passing record and his coach claims he still hasn’t played his best game.

Thomas returned from missing most of the last two games with an injury on his throwing hand to complete 23 of 38 passes for a school record 370 yards and four touchdowns in Eastlake’s 34-28 victory over Issaquah last Friday. He was intercepted twice.

The senior was so ineffective the week before due to his right-hand injury that he had to come out of the game.

“I think a big part of it is he just understands the game in a way a lot of kids don’t,” Wolves coach Don Bartel said. “He has a knack for retaining the things he needs to.”

Thomas is interested at playing at the next level, but because of his size (5 foot 10), most schools are interested in him as a defensive back. Bartel believes if he lands in the right system, Thomas has the ability to be a tremendous quarterback at the collegiate level.

“I think the biggest thing is his arm strength has gotten a lot better,” Bartel said. “With his arm getting stronger over the last year, I think that helps a ton.”
