I sent a couple of tweets out Sunday noting Auburn Riverside’s big win in the Linda Sheridan Volleyball Classic on Saturday.
That was very impressive for the team I’ve had ranked No. 1 in the state in 3A all season. We had a freelance reporter there and you can read the story here, if you missed it.
While working on my state rankings for 4A, 3A and 2A (which will be out in a couple of hours), I tracked down results from two other noteworthy volleyball tourneys played Saturday, so I thought I’d catch you up.
Bellarmine Prep, the two-time defending 4A state champion ranked No. 5 last week (but likely moving up this week), took the Bearcat Invitational in Monroe. The Lions beat No. 10 Mount Si in the semifinals and then handed Kennedy Catholic its first loss of the season in the final.
Kennedy, ranked No. 2 in 3A, advanced to the championship match with a 2-1 victory over No. 5 Holy Names.
And at the Reach the Peak tourney at Glacier Peak, Lynden Christian defeated Garfield in the title match, 2-1. Lynden Christian was ranked No. 2 in Class 1A by the WSVCA last week (no updated rankings from them yet today).
It was a great showing for Garfield, which beat Stanwood and Eastside Catholic in bracket play after winning its pool. Lynden Christian took down Glaicer Peak and Ferndale (3A No. 10) to reach the championship match.
