The Right Stuff Volleyball Blog: Metro opens postseason play

Most leagues are at least a week away from postseason play in volleyball.

But the Metro League gets a jump on them all with some seeding games tonight (Thursday) between teams in the Sound and Valley divisions to set up next week’s tournament, which officially begins on Tuesday.

And one seeding match, between division champs Garfield (Sound) and Ballard (Valley), is Friday at Ballard at 7 p.m. (apparently there is a gym conflict tonight). Both teams are 8-0 in division play. That decides Sound/Valley Nos. 1-2 into the Metro tournament.

As always, the best source for most brackets is the WPANetwork, and you’ll find the volleyball list here (these games are not shown, but the proper seeds will be placed into the Metro bracket, which is in the Class 3A segment, District 2).

So, here is tonight’s lineup – all set for 7 p.m., and admission is free:

No. 2 seeds – Ingraham @ Chief Sealth
No. 3. seeds – Roosevelt @ West Seatatle
No. 4 seeds – Nathan Hale @ Cleveland
No. 5 seeds – Rainier Beach @ Franklin

Teams from the Mountain Division advance directly into the league tournament based on their finishes, led by No. 1 Holy Names and No. 2 Lakeside.

Eastside Catholic and Seattle Prep tied for third and a coin flip is scheduled for Friday to decide third and fourth, with Bishop Blanchet at No. 5 and Bainbridge at No. 6.

In case you missed it, Seattle Prep knocked off fifth-ranked Holy Names on Monday, 3-2. And Blanchet took down No. 9 Lakeside Wednesday, also 3-2.

Let the fun postseason begin!
