There were a couple of big volleyball showdowns last week, particularly in in Class 4A and 3A, and these state rankings reflect that.
As I’ve said before, sometimes it’s not just if you win or lose, but when.
In 4A, Battle Ground avenged an early loss to Camas, so you’ll see University up a notch to No. 4 (where Camas was last week) and Battle Ground up one to No. 5. Camas slips to No. 7, right behind Central Valley.
Note that CV and U-Hi finally square off Tuesday.
In 3A, Kamiakin shook off some recent struggles and turned the tables on Southridge, which had beaten them earlier. So, the Braves climb from 10th to seventh (where Southridge had been). Then Southridge lost again, this time to Pasco — creating a three-way tie for the MCC championship.
I’ve dropped Kamiakin out of the rankings for now, but I’m still holding off on Pasco — even though the Bulldogs also beat Kamiakin earlier in the season.
Instead, I’m giving nods to Bellevue (jumping in at No. 8) and Shorewood (No. 10). Bellevue handed then-No. 8 Lakeside one of its two losses last week (the other was to Bainbridge), so the Lions tumble out this go-around.
Shorewood notched a big win last week against Edmonds-Woodway to take sole possession of the WesCo 3A lead. Holy Names drops from fifth to ninth after a loss to Seattle Prep.
Big match tonight (Monday) between Bellevue and No. 5 Mercer Island.
In 2A, Fife falls from sixth to 10th coming up short against White River. That SPSL 2A has been tough!
Lots of post-season tournament play this week and weekend that should affect next week’s rankings. Here’s how I see it heading in:

- Bellarmine Prep (Tacoma)
- West Valley (Yakima)
- University (Spokane)
- Battle Ground (Vancouver)
- Central Valley (Spokane Valley)
- Eisenhower (Yakima)

- Auburn Riverside
- Kennedy Catholic (Burien)
- Capital (Olympia)
- Columbia River (Vancouver)
- Mercer Island
- Kamiakin (Kennewick)
- Holy Names
- Sehome (Bellingham)
- North Kitsap (Poulsbo)
