As it turns out, I was given wrong information about how those SPSL 4A tiebreaker matches played Wednesday would affect the seedings into the league tournament, which runs tonight (Thursday) and Saturday.
They’ve got some work to do on the fairest way to break three-way ties.
As you recall, there was a three-way tie for first in the SPSL North between Tahoma, Kentridge and Beamer. By coin flip, Tahoma sat out while Kentridge defeated Beamer 3-0 (I originally was told this would be a 2-out-of-3 match, which was also changed).
Since Tahoma beat Kentridge during league play, Tahoma then was awarded the No. 1 seed, with Kentridge No. 2 and Beamer No. 3.
In the three-way tie for fifth between Kent-Meridian, Kentwood and Mount Rainier, K-M had the bye and Kentwood beat Mount Rainier 3-0. K-M had beaten KW during league play and therefor wound up at No. 5, followed by Kentwood and Mount Rainier.
In the South Division playoff, Graham-Kapowsin defeated Rogers 3-1 to earn the No. 3 spot, putting Rogers at No. 4.
The tournament bracket has been updated on the SPSL website (I couldn’t link directly to the bracket, sorry).
