Rewind: Bishop Blanchet tops Garfield

Both player and coach for Bishop Blanchet claimed they weren’t looking ahead, didn’t take the week 10 matchup into account. And now, that the Braves got the win, they still won’t go wide-eyed into this week’s game.

That’s good because Bellevue is waiting. Five-time defending state champions, owners of a Washington record for consecutive games won, etc., etc., etc.

Bishop Blanchet didn’t look great at times, but defensively were stout in beating Garfield 31-7 on Friday. Garfield will play Columbia River, winners of the Greater St. Helens League.

“I think the defense really started to play well down the stretch in the second half, created some momentum for us and gave our offense some opportunities with short fields and an opportunity to score.,” Bishop Blanchet coach Aaron Maul said.

Bishop Blanchet still hasn’t stayed with one quarterback. Alex Freeman got the start on Friday, but Davine Tullis played quite a bit. Maul said one hasn’t separated himself from the other as the clear-cut starter, so look for a committee-type approach next week against Bellevue.
