There were some great finishes to league volleyball tournaments around the area Saturday, so let me catch you up.
Let’s start with the Metro Legue, where Lakeside — which had dropped out of last week’s rankings after a pair of losses — stormed through the bracket and beat No. 9 Holy Names for the title, 3-2. It was a back-and-fourth match and Holy Names actually led 2-1. Lakeside won 15-13 in the fifth.
The match for third and fourth places was also a barn-burner and Seattle Prep came from 2-1 down to beat Ballard in the five — 17-15 in the final set.

In KingCo 3A, No. 5 Mercer Island topped No. 8 Bellevue, 3-1. Bellevue had to go five to get past Lake Washington in the first round. Juanita, which lost 3-0 to MI, earned the third and final berth to the Sea-King 3A District tourney by beating LW, 3-1.

What a great district tourney that should be, and check out the bracket here.
I can’t find an updated link for the SPSL 4A tourney, but top-ranked Emerald Ridge blanked both Kentridge and Tahoma to take the No. 1 seed into the West Central District tournament.
The qualifiers, in order, are ER, Tahoma, Curtis, Kentridge, Kent-Meridian, Graham-Kapowsin, Beamer, Rogers, Kentlake, Bethel and Kentwood (Kentwood started 0-2 in the tourney, then beat Mount Rainier for the final district berth).
Other league/district tournaments (which double as both) just got underway Saturday.
In KingCo 4A, the semifinals are set Tuesday as No. 10 Skyline faces Mount Si and Newport (which knocked off second-seeded Bothell) takes on Eastlake. The title match is Thursday, with a state berth on the line. The loser of that one must fight back throug the consolation bracket for the second and final berth.
Check out the bracket here.
It’s a similar situation in the WesCo 4A (District 1) tourney, with semis Thuesday featuring No. 9 Snohomish vs. Mount Vernon and Kamiak vs. Monroe. The championship match is Thursday. Find the bracket here.
Finally (for now), you can see the WesCo 3A (District 1) bracket here. Semis Tuesday pair No. 6 Ferndale vs. Marysville-Pilchuck and Edmonds-Woodway vs. Arlington. The winners clinch state berths and play for the title Saturday. One other state berth is up for grabs.
I will post links to the West Central 4A and 3A tourneys hopefully tomorrow (Monday), as they are completed. That 3A tournament should be dynamite, featuring the teams I have ranked Nos. 1-4.
Be sure to check back tomorrow for the lastest state rankings.
