Newport in top form at right time

Newport has rattled off win after win since a 47-13 week 3 loss to Bothell dropped the Knights to 1-2 on the young season. Since that defeat, though, Newport hasn’t lost and is playing its best football of the season as it prepares to face the Cougars in the semifinals on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. at the Tacoma Dome.

“It’s definitely crazy, though, just cause I never thought we’d see them in the Dome,” Bothell quarterback Ross Bowers said. “This win streak they got going is pretty rare. We’re catching them while they’re hot, so we’re going to have to figure out a way to start fast. And if we don’t start fast, to come back and get them in the end.”

You can bet that Newport is ready for the rematch.

“Obviously, it’s a pretty big rivalry,” Newport lineman Calvin Throckmorton said, “and they beat us early in the season and we want that redemption, want that revenge.”
