Pregame thoughts: Bellevue and Marysville-Pilchuck

Bellevue and Marysville-Pilchuck will kick off the first 3A state football semifinal in a little more than an hour, but I have some time so I thought I’d post a few quick hitters.

– Bellevue last lost on Sept. 11, 2010 to Skyline, and have won 66 straight games and six consecutive state titles.

– The key matchup will be the Marysville-Pilchuck run game against the Bellevue defense. The Wolverines stuffed Major Ali in a win over Peninsula last week. The Tomahawks are a solid running team. Both Austin Joyner and Killian Page went over 1,500 yards this season. Joyner is an absolute stud. Should be an interesting matchup, and one that could decide the game.

– Marysville-Pilchuck should have a large crowd. The student section is already pretty packed.

– Key player for Bellevue is Mustafa Branch. The linebacker will be important in stopping the run. For the Tomahawks, Joyner will be the impact player. If he can break some big plays, play solidly in the secondary, Marysville-Pilchuck can make this a game.
